What You Can Do to Avoid a Nashville Train Accident

Here in Nashville, we depend on trains to move the goods we use everyday. But failing to follow proper safety precautions can lead to serious accidents, like the Nashville train accident that claimed a motorcyclist’s life last week.

According to The Tennessean, the crash happened at a crossing on Hermitage Avenue at around 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23. Reports indicate the motorcyclist was attempting to cross the tracks when an oncoming train did not have time to stop and the two collided.

The Nashville personal injury attorneys with Ponce Law would like to send their condolences to the family of the motorcyclist who was killed. Several tips you can take to help prevent prevent a train accident while driving or riding include:

  • Stopping- Most railroad crossings are equipped with lights, bells, and cross arms to alert you when a train is coming, but some do not have this technology. That’s why it’s important to take a moment to stop and confirm no trains are on the tracks at every crossing.
  • Looking- Motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians should visually confirm that no trains are coming at each stop by looking in both directions at least twice.
  • Listening- Train conductors are required to blow their whistle before each road crossing. Roll down your windows and lower the volume of your stereo so you can hear the whistle blowing.
  • Never Walking on Tracks– Each year, dozens of people die from walking on train tracks. Use sidewalks and roadways instead.
