Failure to Properly Inspect Vehicles Blamed for Several Truck Accidents

November 8, 2013

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is charged with the responsibility of ensuring large commercial vehicles are properly maintained for safe operation on the road. However, the Nashville Truck Accident Lawyers with Ponce Law say that some government officials are questioning whether the agency is fulfilling this duty.

According to an article from the News-Journal, a number of recent collisions, including one in Tennessee that left 25 people dead and more than 80 others injured, prompted the recent concerns. Officials have stated they have discovered several safety problems with the vehicles involved that should have been red flags to inspectors.

After one crash in California, investigators discovered that a vehicle had not been properly inspected prior to a fatal crash. In another incident, officials learned that a driver had exceeded the allotted number of hours he was legally allowed to drive. Investigators also found drivers not following proper behind the wheel, including speeding and using vehicle equipment at inappropriate times.

The Nashville Personal Injury Lawyers at Michael D. Ponce & Associates are aware of how dangerous an improperly maintained vehicle can be. That’s why the firm suggests anyone who has been injured in an accident discuss their rights with an attorney as soon as possible.
