There are many causes of truck accidents, but one of the most common is faulty equipment. In fact, the Department of Transportation estimates that approximately 10 percent of all truck and bus crashes are the result of negligent or improper maintenance.
This statistic recently hit close to home when brake failure was named as the cause of a deadly Tennessee bus accident last week. Reports indicate the crash happened on the north side of Knoxville on July 17.
According to an article from The Brazil Times, the bus was carrying a church group that had just finished volunteering when the brakes failed as the vehicle approached an intersection. This caused the bus to enter the crossing on a red light where it then struck two other vehicles, killing one occupant and leaving several others seriously injured.
It’s important to remember that strict federal regulations are in place to prevent these types of crashes from occurring. That’s why it’s important to have a qualified Tennessee personal injury attorney by your side if you or a loved one has been hurt in an accident involving a tractor-trailer or passenger bus.
At Ponce Law, we understand how devastating crashes with commercial vehicles can be, which is why we would like to send our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim. The firm would also like to wish those who were injured a speedy and full recovery.
